Zero Emission factor

Production methods

Clean - without emissions

The electricity sold by Vihreä Älyenergia is currently produced using nuclear and wind power. Since these are completely carbon-free production methods, Vihreä Älyenergia’s emission factor is naturally zero (0), meaning that no carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions are generated from the electricity we sell.

Fingrid calculates the real-time emission estimate for the Finnish electricity system based on real-time production and import/export data from its control system, as well as assigned emission factors. Vihreä Älyenergia’s electricity production is based 99% on nuclear power and 1% on wind power. We are also introducing electricity products that primarily use wind power. Here are the emission factors for different energy sources and production methods (updated 8.3.2024, Statistics Finland):

Nuclear power

0 g CO₂/kWh

Wind power

0 g CO₂/kWh

Solar power

0 g CO₂/kWh

Hydro power

0 g CO₂/kWh

District heating CHP*

281 g CO₂/kWh

Industry CHP*

138 g CO₂/kWh

Other methods**

66/809 g CO₂/kWh

* Calculated using Statistics Finland’s electricity production statistics (Energy: 12.3.2.3 and 3.4.2)

** For production exceeding 150 MW, Statistics Finland’s electricity production statistics (Energy: 12.3.2.3) characteristic carbon dioxide emission value for separate electricity production is used.

You can view the CO2 emission estimates for electricity production and consumption on Fingrid’s website: CO2 Emission Estimates for Electricity Production and Consumption – Fingrid.
